A solemn mood cloud over Johor on Tuesday (April 3) evening as a 41-year-old man was crushed to death after a 500kg of concrete cylinder fell from a lorry.
According to sources, the accident occurred at KM60 of Jalan Batu Pahat-Mersing, Johor when the victim stopped to help the lorry driver who was making a U-turn.
The victim was identified as Amir Mahmud, a Bangladeshi man, who was reportedly repairing a broken pipe in the area the incident took place in.
In the 4.30 pm incident, Amir stopped working to assist the lorry driver by trying to control the traffic when one of the cylinders on the back of the lorry broke loose, rolled off and crushed him.
The Kluang police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhamad Laham said Amir succumbed to the pain after sustaining serious head and body injuries. His body was later taken to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital for a post-mortem.
ACP Muhamad added that Amir was “standing too close to the lorry and did not have enough time to escape” when the cylinder fell.
“Further investigation will be carried out to identify the cause of the incident, including possible negligence.”
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Amir Mahmud, may his soul rest in peace. You are in our prayers through this hardest time. We pray that the authorities will be able to solve the case swiftly so that Amir’s family may find solace in his passing.
